Koerner matched her career-high for three-point field goals on Friday, as she knocked down five triples in the winning effort. She went 5-12 from the floor overall and 5-10 from long range as the Dolphins picked up their first win of the season and head Coach Gerald Davis’ first win with the Mount.
With 7:51 left in the first half Rutgers-Camden tied the score for the third and final time in the contest. After a pair of free-throws from Karima Blackwell tied the score at 14-14, junior Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY) converted a free-throw to put the Dolphins ahead for good as the Dolphins carried a 34-28 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Mount Saint Vincent shot just over 45-percent from the floor and outscored Rutgers-Camden by a 57-28 margin to secure the win. Freshman Erika Thompson (Harrison, NJ) scored 12 of her career-high 14 points in the second frame on 4-5 shooting from the floor.
Heesemann posted her first double-figure scoring night of the season with 11 points to go along with six rebounds, an assist and one block. Junior point guard Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, NY) posted 12 points on 4-5 shooting along with six assists and just one turnover.
After turning the ball over 28 times against Lehman on Tuesday night, the Dolphins cut that number to 18 on Friday in the win, while forcing 32. The Dolphins turned those turnovers into 24 points and also held a commanding 42-18 edge in points in the paint.
Rutgers-Camden was paced by Blackwell who finished the night with a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Both marks were game-highs on Friday.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent’s record to 1-1 overall on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is host New York University on Saturday night in the NYU Tip-Off Tournament Championship Game. Tip-Off is set for 8:00 p.m.
